Aerosol Spray Actuator Assembly, Step by Step

How an aerosol spray actuator — the spray cap on top of the can — is assembled from its separate parts on a rotary machine, station by station.

What is an aerosol spray actuator? An aerosol spray actuator is the spray cap that sits on top of an aerosol can. It is a small part made of several pieces: the actuator in our Pakistan case has five, and a rotary machine assembles all five on one rotary table.

Key takeaways

  • An aerosol actuator is the spray cap on top of the can; the aerosol valve is a separate part with its own machine.
  • A rotary machine assembles the five-part actuator in five steps: bowl feed, fixture, gripper placement, station-by-station assembly, discharge.
  • The machine we supplied in Pakistan is rated at 4,200 finished actuators per hour.
  • Each actuator stands upright in its own fixture while pneumatic grippers above the table set each piece in place.
  • The AM-TY-05 runs on single-phase 220 V, 50 Hz and 0.4–0.6 MPa air, and is operated from a touch screen with push buttons beside it; output is set by your actuator and its part count.

Figure 1. Five steps, one station at a time.

1. Feed the parts. A vibratory bowl feeds the parts into the machine. The small white parts travel along feed tracks to the rotary table. See how a vibratory bowl feeder works.

2. Fixture. Each actuator stands upright in its own fixture on the rotary table. The fixture keeps the part in place while the next piece is added.

3. Place. Pneumatic grippers above the table pick up the next piece and set it in place. The grippers work as the table indexes round, so each piece is placed at its own station.

4. Complete. The five pieces come together one station at a time. Each actuator is built up station by station as the table turns, one piece added at each station.

5. Discharge. The finished actuators leave the machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

An aerosol spray actuator is the spray cap that sits on top of an aerosol can. It is assembled from separate small parts; the actuator in our Pakistan case has five pieces. The aerosol valve is a different part, and it has its own assembly machine, set up for your valve parts.
An aerosol actuator is assembled in five steps on a rotary machine: a vibratory bowl feeds the parts, each actuator stands upright in its own fixture, pneumatic grippers set each piece in place as the table indexes, the five pieces come together station by station, and the finished actuators leave the machine.
The actuator is the spray cap on top of the can, and the aerosol valve is a separate part, so they have separate machines. The AM-TY-05 assembles actuators; the aerosol valve assembly machine assembles aerosol valves, set up for your own valve parts. Send us each valve part and the assembled valve and we tell you whether it can be assembled.
The speed depends on your actuator and its part count. The rotary machine we supplied in Pakistan assembles five-part actuators at a rated 4,200 finished actuators per hour. Send us your parts, and we tell you how fast yours can be assembled.
The AM-TY-05 runs on single-phase 220 V, 50 Hz power and 0.4–0.6 MPa compressed air. The output is not a fixed figure: it is set by your actuator and its part count. Send drawings of your actuator parts and we confirm the configuration with you.
Yes. For an aerosol products customer in Pakistan we supplied a rotary machine that assembles five-part aerosol spray actuators, rated at 4,200 finished actuators per hour; it is now at work in the customer's own production. Every machine is matched to a customer's own parts.
For a fine mist sprayer or spray pump, see our fine mist sprayer and spray pump assembly machines, and for a trigger sprayer see our trigger sprayer assembly machines. Each is set up for your own parts. Send photos of your part and we tell you which one fits.
To quote an aerosol actuator assembly machine we need drawings or photos of each part and of the assembled actuator, and your target output. With those we tell you whether it can be assembled and how fast, and send an exact quote within 24–48 hours.
